And now for something completely different - Futuristic Retro Champions are a band that seems to be innovation personified. If it were possible to collect sunshine in a sound bite, then this here would be your evidence. Quite unlike pretty much anything else you will hear nowadays, this sunny slice of happy hardcore, emotronic (which, for the records, happens to be the best adjective ever) pop is just what the current music scene needs in terms of something fresh and something new.

Futuristic Retro Champions master a sound so vivid and fanciful, it will brighten even your gloomiest of days

Based in the musically flourished city of Edinburgh, Futuristic Retro Champions are a five-piece who mean business. Really, their name says it all - they strike a balance between traditional (or retro) melody and futuristic sounds, creating a perfect blend of electropop that this nation has lacked for quite some time. Bordering on the realms of Foals as fellow electro-pioneers, Futuristic Retro Champions master a sound so vivid and fanciful, it will brighten even your gloomiest of days.

The track itself is, as implied, quite epic. It plunges its listeners into something that is intense as it is triumphant - with a particular emphasis on the use of horns, what a hoot. Managing to be both melodic and catchy, Epic New Song shimmers in its refreshing take on pop music as it should be. The band's MySpace page tells us that ‘they are currently creating a rainbow', and this is something in which I wholeheartedly believe. In a nutshell, this band has something totally new to offer, and it would be a shame for anyone to miss out. Futuristic? Yes. Retro? Yes. Champions? Oh yeah.
