Review: There Will Be Fireworks - Foreign Thoughts
Tuesday, 05 May 2009

Wowser - Scotland really seems to be the sparkling hotbed for new talent these days, demonstrated very nicely indeed by up-and-coming Glaswegian gems, There Will Be Fireworks. Just the band name alone simply screams cool, but just wait until you hear the product.

The haunting background sounds that glide throughout create the perfect frame for the tune

Gleaming with true Scottish charm, Foreign Thoughts is a track that draws you in from its very beginning. Inspired by acts from Radiohead to Kings of Leon, Sigur Rós to The Cure, There Will Be Fireworks create a recipe for delicious sound bites, which seems to have it all. The haunting background sounds that glide throughout create the perfect frame for a tune that is bettered only by its blend with such gorgeous vocals and lyrics. It is the perfect soundtrack to a beautiful scene. Then (my favourite bit), nearing the end of the track arrives this great climactic moment that really gave me shivers - no lie.

A grand performance from start to finish, Foreign Thoughts genuinely seems to derive from a source of pure innovation. Be sure to check out their MySpace page, on which you can find filmed acoustic sets and see for yourselves how they are not afraid to try out different instruments, sounds and effects. By name and by nature, the results are explosive. This quirky but really quite interesting quartet serve up something of which, I think, we all are in need - a taste of something new. If you don't get the chance to give these guys a listen then, believe me, you will without doubt be missing out. As for the fireworks? There will be some - about that I am certain.
