Review: The Kick - Lights Out
Monday, 23 July 2007
Image Recently the Scottish music scene has exploded with a barrage of great sounding bands and artists that have shot to success at the top of the U.K charts. Looking at the quality of the bands behind the front-runners, I would say it’s a scene here to stay!

The Kick, certainly kick they can be found in the Glasgow area and they sound incredibly fresh, after listening to the four songs on their Myspace page I’m hooked, especially on a song called ‘Lights Out’.

These guys ARE talent, too much talent to miss out on the big time!

Lights Out has received credit from everyone who has heard the song it truly is amazing. The beginning of the track reminds me of the Stone Roses and Bloc Party with a melodic guitar rift and bass line accompanied a soft voice. All this changes in around one and a half minutes of the song where the tempo picks up and the tone of voice changes then the guitars burst in like thunder hitting a tin roof and set the track alight! Then the track is brought back down for the second verse that gives it a great twist and a lot of diversity. The whole feeling of ‘Lights out’ is filled with a kind of sullen anger, which makes you want to hear it again and again as it’s easy to relate to.

The lyrics of the song are quite moving, the sort that sends a shiver down your spine and they accompany the mood of the track perfectly. This song has definitely got what it takes to take the band to the next level, and with the song writing skills on show I can’t wait for more music from these guys, especially after hearing another track which is definitely worth a listen ‘Poor me’.

The band’s image and sound is unique which will definitely separate them from other bands and gain them respect on the music scene. These guys ARE talent, too much talent to miss out on the big time! So check them out and get behind The Kick, they’ve had rave reviews everywhere and I’ve heard seeing them live is a must, so if you see a flyer with The Kick written on it, get to the show pronto! You will not be disappointed.
