Review: The Arkanes - Just Can't Help Myself
Sunday, 07 December 2008

The Arkanes are an up and coming UK band with great potential, although they have really just started out since forming in 2006 they already hold an extensive fan base and are soon to tour the UK from Liverpool to London! Their style is unique and the band ooze eccentric energy levels that can be felt within their songs. Tracks like Sick Elixirs and Timebomb get at you from the start with heavy guitars and an up tempo beat, it's pick you up music that gets you ready for action.

The band create an amazing sound but the voice of Chris Pate really puts the songs that level higher

The track that really shows The Arkanes full glory though is Just Can't Help Myself. With a nice bit of bass and drum to kick off the song gets straight inside you and makes you start to bounce. Soon a bit of guitar hits but backs off and the lyrics are unleashed, well all I can say is listen to Chris Pate's voice it is truly amazing! the lyrics are short and fast but the tone brings out the energy that the band create and sound simply amazing. Soon the guitar is backing up the lyrics and the whole thing fits in perfectly together, drum bass, guitar and lyrics in a perfect momentum that builds all the way to the end of the verse, which makes way for a heavier guitar rift that rolls into the chorus perfectly. There are moments when the lyrics are screamed but it's nothing too over the top and fits the track like a glove, I really cannot emphasize the sound of the lyrics enough. The band create an amazing sound but the voice of Chris Pate really puts the songs that level higher and every great band needs an original and creative lead singer to single them out from everything else around.

The Arkanes are definitely a band to watch, their sound is unique and like nothing else around at the moment, so check out the Arkanes, buy the EP or listen to the tracks online and tell a friend or a million!
