Review: Popup - Love Triangle
Saturday, 16 August 2008

A dizzy and delicious whirlwind of sound, Popup's up and coming single Love Triangle proves that this Glaswegian four-piece are by no means a force to be reckoned with. Delicately mingling a little bit of Cajun Dance Party's vibrancy with an established and grandiose style quality a bit like that of Death Cab for Cutie, these super Scots really know how to make some beautiful noise.

Popup refreshingly allow for a charming Scottish lilt to add a special something to their creations

Whilst maintaining an elegance throughout the entire track, Love Triangle progresses from a calm ditty to what soon becomes a majestic sweep of riffs and melodies. Unlike many vocalists who seem to lose their accents when performing, Popup refreshingly allow for a charming Scottish lilt to add a special something to their creations. I do think however, that the track is really best described as ‘warm'; it is to the modern music world what comfort food is to all these new diet fads. Offering its listeners a slice of comfort, this track is nothing short of a big old musical hug.

Be sure to check out their MySpace page, on which they are described gorgeously; "They are the sound of birds migrating, of nature's irregular beat. They move like man's heart racing, as the blood drains to his feet." It is no wonder then, that lyrically speaking the minds behind Popup are also something of a sensation. With a number of gigs on the way, Popup can look forward to the good music-making times that lie ahead; they are both genuinely a band on which to keep an eye in the very near future.
