Plastic Passion are a sweet three piece from Cheshunt. Their first show kicked off just days after their official formation in 2007. Before they became ‘official' with the addition of Mike Frank on drums, Glenn Clift (guitar and backing vocals) and Lemmi Eaton (what an ace names) released a split E.P featuring the song Not Art (which, according to ArtRocker magazine is an ‘art-punk anthem' although that makes it sound pretentious and tossy, trust me, it's not) which was released on Leaving Home Records, under the name Plastic Passion.
Since then, they've been writing and gigging non-stop-in the last year of touring all over the country, they have played over 100 shows supporting Blood Red Shoes, Foals, Jack Penate, Hadouken, Dans Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip and more recently with 30 Seconds To Mars at the Hammersmith Apollo and also featured on a couple of compilations and been listed in ‘What's on the NME stereo' Contrived Imagery is their first full length album (What an album cover!) and was released in Japan this year through Knew Noise Records. There are ten fabulous tracks on the album, all pretty much lairy, bouncy songs-for-strutting with plaintive PiL style vocals (they also seem like an edgier ‘Neil's Children' funnily enough, they also supported Neil's Children sporadically over the last 3 years) I couldn't get enough of Look Around and the mournful Scratching At the Door shows another side to them altogether (and is a well placed surprise, in the midst of all that manic, high paced jiggery pokery) I'm inclined to say I can hear a bit of vintage (ie; good) Blur in there too. The final track It Stops seems to have a ‘Popscene' vibe going on. In all, it's hard not to be passionate about Plastic Passion. Listen to 'Homage'
