 In 1991 people in my area dropped their glow sticks, ripped off their raving gear and dawned longer hair, scruffy jeans and chequered shirts, the reason? Nirvana! Kurt Cobain and the album Nevermind changed music and the way people were. Suddenly grunge was the best thing since sliced bread, and it was the way forward. Everyone had a shot at it but Nirvana were the bollocks! But like all good things it came to an end in 1994 with the death of Cobain. Although many bands tried the spirit was never really there, the ruggedness had gone and it seemed bands were just trying to copy but failing.
Monster Eats the Pilot have something that may bring grunge back into the mainstream yet again, they are rugged, they have that aura about them which no one has been able to create since Nirvana and they also have that little bit of scruffy coolness which is always good for their image. All this mixed together seems to be working well for the band as they are excelling and even breaking into the U.K shores with a couple of their tracks being played on Radio One in New Music We Trust not too long ago. An outstanding song produced by these guys is The World Goes Clack! it reminds me a lot of a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song mixed with the lyrics of Kurt Cobain. It has the California-ness about it that makes it a cool track, although the very start sounds a lot like Corner Shop's Brim Full of Asha?! (see if you agree?) The songs got the laid back "damn I'm stoned" feeling about it and the track flows really well. Its not over the top, there's no screaming or mad guitar solos it's a down to earth solid track that sounds as though it was recorded in five minutes and some of the best songs ever created were made this way. This song hits a spot in the music industry that no other bands are reaching out to, it's different, it's rugged, it sounds like you heard it before and you liked it! I suggest you check this band out, California has given us so much over the years and it doesn't look like it's stopping now! These guys are the bee's knees so check ‘em out and snap up their early stuff before they become legends!
