![]() What do Glasvegas, 80's pop legend Tiffany, and KT Tunstall, have in common? The answer is Kid Canaveral, a Scottish four piece that have opened for all of them. These musical icons of varying talent (surely no one can ever hope to beat I Think We're Alone Now on the talent stakes?) obviously know a good thing when they hear one.
Forming in 2004 the band have since been working up quite a following, and in their new single Couldn't Dance you can hear the years of hard work paying off. A Bass heavy pop tune of the indie variety that beats the sound of the drums until the rhythm becomes resident in your ear canals, in a good way. The best thing about this song is David McGregor's voice; his raspy Scottish vocal cords give the song that little bit extra. The harmonies and thrashing guitars add the dusting of perfection that makes this a lo-fi spectacular. Its essence is that of a simple melody but the lyrics transform it into a humorous tale of drunken debauchery, well they are Scottish after all. They cite their diverse influences as being from Annie Lennox to The Fraggles- now that's a collaboration waiting to happen?!! It's evident in this track that this band knows how to take their music seriously but not themselves, they sound like their having a good time playing it together and this rubs off on you from the first listen. If you like Glasvegas or The Fraggles or hopefully both, then give Kid Carnaveral's Couldn't Dance a listen and you won't be disappointed.
