Review: hey! Panda - Angry Canadian
Wednesday, 28 May 2008

Coming straight from the Dales of Yorkshire (well not quite the Dales), come a fresh new band 'hey! Panda'. This is a young band that describes their music as dance punk. One thing I got to say straight away, this band is mental! There's loads of craziness running through the veins of their songs and also a lot of talent. Their sound is quite literally mind stopping stuff, its confusing, its hard to understand until you get taken away inside it and spat out the other end. hey! Panda sort of reminds me of watching a David Bowie concert from the 1970's (on T.V I'm not that old!) lots of energy, arms legs and spit everywhere in a chaotic mess that's absolutely amazing.

Angry Canadian is loud, its proud and its in your face knocking the wind out of ya!

The song I have chosen to review is Angry Canadian. This song is literally less than a minute and a half long but its straight in there with the guts and grit that this band produces. The tempo is as fast as 'The Prodigy's Full Throttle and thunders in from the start. The whole song is utter chaos, it's loud, its proud and its in your face knocking the wind out of ya! If this is how the band start a gig just get ready for a night of mayhem. It's like someone shouts "CHARGE!" and the Red Army come running into your eardrum and pound through your head at full sprint, an absolute adrenaline rush from start to finish. The lyrics are short and sweet but suit the song perfectly, the singer James has a voice that shouts it out, lets you know hey! Panda are in the house! But the thing that really makes this song for me are the drums, I'm not sure if Eddie can keep this tempo up all night but even a minute and a half at this speeds an impressive feat alone!

So if this the way music is turning, bring it on! 10/10 for this band, all their tracks are up lifting, electrified and totally mental! There is a hint of Klaxons in here, but I think they sound fresher than the Klaxons and I'm looking forward to seeing hey! Panda many times in the future.
