With a name like Cactusk, it really just goes without saying that whatever comes out of this music-making machine will probably provide nothing less than a captivating catch of the good stuff. Having drifted from all the way across the pond, these Michigan-based fellows conjure up something that is both mellow and momentous, and their new single A Lie is a fine example of just how they manage to master such a sound.

Cactusk really gleam in their ability to create a style of performance that is both relaxed and vigorous

With a distinct likeness to the subtle splendour of artists such as John Rzeznik, as well as maintaining the powerful and influential qualities of acts in the vein of Jimmy Eat World and the Goo Goo Dolls, Cactusk really gleam in their ability to create a style of performance that is both relaxed and vigorous. This is especially highlighted by the soothing string undertones throughout, adding a classical element to what is already in its own right a fine example of musical flair. What's more, within the haze of allure, pauses are dispersed throughout the track that add a little something special to what is indeed a short but sweet blast of mighty melody.

As if that wasn't enough already - upon a closer listening it soon becomes clear that not only do Cactusk perform well musically, but what they have to offer lyrically is also something definitely worth noting. They are nice to listen to, of course, but what really stands out about them is the way that they actually say something. It is only too often nowadays that we encounter lyrics that are merely decorative. But no sir, this is not the case with Cactusk. With profound and pointed lyrics-a-plenty, A Lie blends this into a magical performance in order to create for us a true musical treat. And that my friends, is no lie at all.
